The Crown Chakra

We’ve made it to the last chakra in the the series! If you’re just joining in, be sure to start at the beginning of the series with the root chakra.

The crown chakra, or sahasrāra chakra in Sanskrit, is the seventh chakra in the energy system. This is the last and most spiritual of the chakras and is associated with higher consciousness, inner guidance and oneness with each other and the universe.

Think of the crown chakra as being connected to your highest potential and connection to source.

Where is it located?

The crown chakra is located just above the head. Each chakra vibrates a particular sense of frequency and energy that impacts certain parts of the body. The crown chakra is not associated with the physical body, but is related to thought and silence. Some people like to think of it as a type of umbilical cord connecting us to the divine. An idea that we are all part of the collective consciousness.

The crown chakra has a masculine energy and it’s mantra is, “I know.”

What do crown chakra imbalances look like?

If the crown chakra is out of balance or experiencing an energy block, emotional issues can arise.

Common issues manifest as feeling confused or feeling a loss of purpose, difficulty meditating, feeling disconnected or wanting to socially isolate, and/or a general feeling of ‘there must be more to life’.

The strongest signs of a crown chakra imbalance are depression, extreme fatigue and being narrow minded.

An open and balanced crown chakra is blissful. You will learn to transcend your limitations and become aware of a higher consciousness. Some say to reach this level is spiritual ecstasy. This chakra allows access to enlightened wisdom and true clarity.

How to Unblock the Crown Chakra

Meditation is a great tool for balancing chakras. Try to envision a bright white or indigo light pouring into the top of your head, connecting you to source energy. You can also try a guided meditation for the crown chakra specifically.

A more physical way to ground the crown chakra would be to practice yoga to enhance the mind/body connection. Yoga poses that activate this chakra are lotus pose, headstands, fish pose, savasana or tree pose.

Reiki, a holistic modality that addresses energetic imbalances in the body, can also be extremely beneficial in unblocking chakras. It’s also powerful in feeling relaxed and supported.

Aromatherapy and use of essential oils like cedarwood, frankincense and myrrh.

Gemstones and crystals can target the crown chakra energy also. Gemstones for this chakra include amethyst, selenite, clear quartz, angelite and labradorite.

Another energy healing modality, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), commonly called the tapping method, is also beneficial in balancing the chakras. This technique combines energy psychology with accupressure points based on the Chinese meridian system.

Additionally, while eating whole, colored foods can assist with unblocking the other chakras, the crown chakra benefits from fasting. Fasting has long been recognized as part of most spiritual traditions. This method pauses the flow of food to the body to assist in detoxifying, boosting energy and clearing the mind. Side note: This should only be done under the guidance of a qualified medical professional.
