The Solar Plexus Chakra

where is my solarplexus chakra?

The solar plexus chakra, also referred to as Manipura in Sanskrit, is the body’s source of personal power, self esteem and identity. It is the third chakra in the system and its energy element is fire. The color representation is yellow.

Where is it located?

The solar plexus chakra is located in the upper belly, above the navel at the diaphragm. Each chakra vibrates a particular sense of frequency and energy that impacts certain parts of the body. For the solar plexus, it’s the digestive system and it’s main function is to help transform matter into energy to fuel your body.

When you think of the solar plexus chakra, think personal will power, identity and self-discipline. While the Sacral chakra seeks pleasure and enjoyment, the third chakra is all about the perception of who you are.

The solar plexus is thought to have a masculine energy and it’s mantra is “I can”. The message of this chakra is: You have the power to choose.

What do Solar Plexus imbalances look like?

If there is an imbalance in the solar plexus chakra you may experience physical or emotional symptoms.

Physical imbalances may manifest as issues with the digestive system, liver, gallbladder or colon. This may also show up as ulcers or improper processing of nutrients. Some people experience excessive weight gain, especially in the midsection, and can struggle with eating disorders.

Emotional imbalances may manifest as low self esteem, difficulty trusting, self doubt and excessive worrying about what others think about you.

Others may find self expression difficult. For some people it may show up as controlling behavior or being overly critical towards others.

An open and balanced solar plexus reflects confidence and knowing how to make conscious choices. You will trust your inner guidance without questioning and follow your intuition without hesitation.

How to Unblock the Solar Plexus Chakra

The main idea of opening or balancing the third chakra is to gain insight into your own individuality, identity and understanding of power.

Meditation, or envisioning the color yellow in your stomach area can be energetically cleansing. Yellow connects you to inner knowledge and intellect. It is also represents the color of the sun. Think of this chakra as your personal energy source, shining strength, power and your true self out into the world.

A more physical way to ground the solar plexus chakra would be to practice yoga to enhance the mind/body connection. Yoga poses that activate this chakra are bow pose, crescent pose, triangle and downward facing dog.

Reiki, a holistic modality that addresses energetic imbalances in the body, can also be extremely beneficial in unblocking chakras. It’s also powerful in feeling relaxed and supported.

Aromatherapy and use of essential oils like Chamomile, bergamot, cedarwood, rosemary are amongst the most popular soothing oils that help in building confidence and quieting a busy mind.

Gemstones can also bring the solar plexus back in to balance. Gemstones for this chakra include citrine, tiger’s eye, yellow jasper and amber. These help to support, contain and balance the fire energy in our Third Chakra.
